DESIGN NAME: DUO R-Media
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Interactive Media
INSPIRATION: The inspiration for the design of this interactive media came mainly from 2 areas, firstly from the direct influence of the heritage sites of kampong glam and the bustling city center of Singapore at which Duo sits in between. This led to the idea of a curated photo centric design to immerse users into the many amenities within and surrounding Duo.
Secondly, the iconic hexagonal shape in Duo's logo and structural design as well as architect Ole Scheeren's concept of concave shapes and circles which led to the core of the user interface and experience design.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The brief was to create a touch screen interactive media within the show flat of Duo Residences to educate visitors on key information related to Duo.
The interactive media is placed next to the sales gallery where physical models and 3D perspective renderings of the development are. The sales team will use both physical models and interactive media to explain key features of Duo before visitors are led into the show flat units.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Users may tap on "360 degree model" or "360 degree view" to access 2 different sections of the Interactive Media. The "model" section will enable users to gain information on Duo's concept and internal amenities, the Interactive Media will engage their memory for information as they turn the Duo model around and select the different sections. The beautiful transitions will further enhance the user experience as it is inline with the entire hexagonal interface design.
In the "view" section, users can tap any category on the right and the relevant areas will be marked with colors, tapping into each of them brings up curated photos, that will let users have a taste of what to expect in the various areas in the different categories. The 2 sections of the user interface will cover information on Duo itself and the surrounding internal and external amenities.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project took about 6 months from conceptualization to completion and was implemented within the show flat of Duo Residences in Singapore to educate visitors on key information related to Duo.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Previsualization in 3D software had to be done before flying a drone to capture the 360 panoramic photo. Photographic and CG elements were then matched in 3D software before the final image is post processed in Photoshop.
A 3D model of Duo had to be rendered frame by frame in 360 degrees so that it could be integrated into the interactive media as a non-video format optimized for both Flash and iOS.
Other elements such as icons and graphic overlays were developed in Illustrator.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: This interactive media for Duo was programmed to be for multitouch screens. It is output in Flash format as well as optimized for an iPad app on iOS.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: To derive at the overall rotational navigation and design of icons and transitions, VMW Group studied concepts and designs by the architects involving circular forms, circles and iconic hexagonal patterns on the building’s façade.
Analyzing the city’s masterplan by relevant authorities for future train lines to extract information for graphical overlay of aerial 360 photo.
On-site research walking within a 2km radius of Duo to identify landmarks and amenities for curated photography direction.
CHALLENGE: Previous agencies engaged by the client lacked synergy and consistency in brand identity between collaterals representing Duo. Typical designs for real estates were used.
We had to analyze the strengths and weaknesses of each existing collateral.
VMW Group also had to change the status quo of mainstream perception of interactive media was akin to website. We had to customize and program specific UI and UX to adapt not only to mass audiences in show suites but also personal one-to-one marketing.
