| DESIGN NAME: File BOX PRIMARY FUNCTION: File Cabinet INSPIRATION: The design of the FileBOX file cabinet was inspired by the drop down cabinet door systems used for different purposes. A metal file hanger is screwed to the specially designed sockets placed on the interior surfaces of the FileBOX drop down cabinet doors. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The FileBOX file cabinet has two different depth measurements, designed in a manner in which it can be used on two sides in the central parts of open offices or it can be used on one side in front of walls. The single sided FileBOX file cabinet is formed of four each drop down cabinet doors, whereas, the double sided FileBOX is composed of eight each drop down cabinet doors. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The FileBOX has sufficient storage capacity as well as esthetic appearance. Furthermore, the FileBOX used on one side has a depth of 23 cm that presents the opportunity of storing files in an extremely practical manner, especially in front of the walls in closed offices with narrow spaces. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The melamine coated particleboard material, which is possible to be reused and whose wastes are almost completely recyclable, was preferred in the production of the FileBOX. The lower, upper, side and perpendicular central flat surfaces of The FileBOX file cabinets are assembled to each other in a practical manner at the place of use with the treenail and single headed socket with an eccentric fitting element, whereas, the horizontal and perpendicular central flat surfaces are assembled to each other with the treenail and double headed pivot eccentric fitting element. A single piece back is attached to the cabinets used on one side, whereas, four different pieces are attached to the double sided cabinets placed in the tenon cavity opened on the central parts of the flat surfaces. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Dimensions of assembled double sided FileBOX: 82 cm (w) x 45 cm (d) x 82+10 = 92 cm (h). The pieces for a total of 415 each double sided FileBOX boxes, each with a maximum weight of 25 kg can be placed and transported in a 20 cubic foot container. TAGS: Filebox, Folder Cabinet, Square Door, Joint RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The FileBOX file cabinet, which was designed in a manner to be used single or double sided, provides the opportunity to store the files in a horizontal position that would take lass space, thanks to the metal hangers assembled on the drop down cabinet doors of the FileBOX file cabinet. The melamine-coated particleboard material used on the doors and body of the FileBOX are suitable, both for mass production and for packaging and transporting easily the unassembled parts. CHALLENGE: Thanks to the metal hangers assembled on the drop down doors of the FileBOX file cabinets, which can be used as single or double sided, provides the opportunity for storing the files, both in a horizontal position and in an area having a depth of 23 cm. NAME: FileBOX PROFILE: Kemal Yıldırım, the designer of the FileBOX, is presently employed as a Professor at the Gazi University in Ankara, Turkey. Prof. Yıldırım has written over 90 national and international scientific articles in the field of Furniture and Interior Space Design. He won the “Unions of Exporters Grand Prize” with the design called AngledBOX in the Office Furniture Professional Category at the “Eighth National Furniture Design Competition” organized by the Unions of Exporters of Turkey on 10 April 2015. Furthermore, he won “Second Prize” with the design called Life Bed at the “Furniture Design Competition for Saving Lives in an Earthquake” that was opened within the scope of the Fifth International Kocaeli Earthquake Symposium held on 11 June 2015. In addition, he won 3 each “A Design Awards” with the designs titled AngledSHELF, V-Bookcase and MyBATH at the 2016 A Design Awards, included among the most prestigious design competitions of the world organized in Italy. |
