PRIMARY FUNCTION: Poster
INSPIRATION: The poster is inspired by a DNA Paper origami structure to promote the core design elements of the exhibition D-Sign-Lab which referred to a relation between art, design and science.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The poster transforms into a 3D DNA structure to emphasise the texts printed on it which portray the esencial design elements of the exhibition D-Sign-Lab which centred on a relation between art, design and science.
Translucent paper was selected not only to make feasible the folded DNA origami structure, but also to be able to read the bilingual texts—Spanish and Czech—at once but also apart from each other [Spanish text (blue ink) is printed in reverse order in the back, while Czech text (red ink) is printed in the front side of the poster]
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: By folding the poster, it transforms into a DNA origami structure. The folding also helps to isolate both language texts, as the poster is printed double-sided, in order to contemplate the text as a singular unit of meaning and/or mere letters. When pasting posters together a festive and celebrative structure appears which helps to promote de exhibition as an enjoyable event.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The main objective was to create a poster that while it was promoting an exhibition on art, design and science, would visually act as a metaphor for the essence of this exhibition. DNAs carry the esencial genetic human "codes", thus, the poster acts likewise by communicating the essence of the exhibition D-Sign-Lab, and by clearly visualizing its paper body structure as a DNA. With regards to the production process, it was also important to experiment with a translucent paper that could support the three dimensional DNA origami structure. In this regard, the reader would have to approach and interact with the poster as a sort of "mobile sculpture", in order to decipher its message.
CHALLENGE: It relates to both idea generation and production: 1) All typesetting found in the backside of the poster is printed in a reverse order. In this manner, the text can easily be read from the front side of the poster. The latter also facilitates the smooth integration between back and front sides of the poster layout.
2) To find a translucent paper that could support a 3D DNA origami structure and that, at the same time, could make legible double sided printed typesetting.
