| DESIGN NAME: Florush PRIMARY FUNCTION: Toothbrush INSPIRATION: This design concept was created and inspired by falling water down a typical toothbrush and the cheerfulness of a twist ice-cream. I wanted to design a toothbrush that is playful, pleasant, fun to use and provides the user with personalisation and function. I couldn't find a toothbrush which would give me that, so I decided to look into the current market and look for a solution. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The body of the toothbrush can be created from stained mahogany wood or plastic, finished at one end by a coloured sculpture made of acrylic glass resembling the flow of water and twist ice-cream. It can be unscrewed and changed for a different colour. It also hides an interdental brush that can be easily replaced by unscrewing; the transparent plastic cover over it is fixated by sliding that onto a piece of material that exceeds the main screw. At the other end is the part with the bristles. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: It's operated as a traditional toothbrush and held in the middle. The part of the brush with the bristles can be changed and unscrewed, replaced with a new part of different colour and material. The other end of the toothbrush can be replaced too, but also functions as a pocket and holder of a replaceable interdental brush. A plastic cover over it is provided for hygienic purposes. The toothbrush has a wooden conical travel box, matching the design of the brush. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: This first concept was created in Prague between November 2015 and February 2016. The redesign and finalisation of the concept happened in Barcelona during January and February 2017. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The toothbrush body can be produced from wood as well as plastic. The silver looking lines are made from stainless steel. The coloured sculpture resembling the shape of a twist ice-cream is made of acrylic glass. All the parts are changeable and different colours combinations can be created. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Length: 224mm TAGS: toothbrush, design, beauty, teeth, ice-cream, water, cosmetic, sculpture, bristles RESEARCH ABSTRACT: I first looked into the best toothbrushes out there and what techniques they employ and what aesthetic aspects prevail. I used the best from each, combined it, added some of my own ideas and knowledge and created this toothbrush. The first initial idea was based on what I have researched. Later, the design was changing according to my changing vision.
