| DESIGN NAME: AR Globe PRIMARY FUNCTION: Educational Toy INSPIRATION: The main reason for making AR Globe is to teach children about the world. Not only do tradition globes lack information, many children also don't have the resources to learn and interact with the rest of the world but with AR Globe they can easier do so from the comfort and safety of their homes. AR Globe is also aimed to make children more aware and acquainted with not only the knowledge and culture of their home countries but that of all the countries around the world. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: AR Globe is an Education toy that uses AR Technology to teach children about the world. It takes the concept of design for the traditional globe and also the concept of digital globes then brings them together on a wider scale by not only teaching about places and regions but also about life on the planet, what's inside the planet, the Jurassic Era and, even more, the rest of the universe with the help of Augmented Reality(AR) Technology. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: With AR Globe it's quite simple to use. In order to use AR Globe you'll need to download the NeoBear AR Popup app NeoAir for AR Globe on your smart device. After you have both AR Globe and the app, you then scan the QR code on the box to authorize the application. Choose AR Globe and open. Now choose the mode you want and watch AR Globe come to life PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project was started on January 2016 in Shanghai and is expected to be finished on August 2016 in Shanghai. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Coming up with the design for AR Globe was quite simple. AR Globe was designed off the basic/traditional globe. With this design though, the potential was limited so to improve this the digital/AR aspect was designed. The AR/digital aspect was design off of the spherical shape of the planet but it wasn't designed flat nor was it static. It still kept the globe like "physical" features and it was dynamic with illustrations and animations to peek the interest of the user. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Dimensions: 23cm * 31cm * 23cm App Requirements: Android 4.1 or higher IOS 7.0 or higher Minimum Required Storage: 1GB Required Storage: 2GB TAGS: AR, Toy,Popup, Educational, Entertainment RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The idea was based on a bookstore inspired by a an incident in a bookstore where a father tried to explain the son the world with the help of a nearby standing globe. This didn't work so well due the son couldn't really imagine the things he got told. We thought we can improve this with our technology and let the globe became alive. For this we first compared several standard globes with each other to understand how we can realize something simple, stable and at the same time beautiful to mix it in the end with our technology. The second step was to think about which content we want to show. For this we decided the most interesting topics for children and there age group - Country information - Dinosaurs - Animals and the Space. The next, very challenging, step was to make the app working on an round thing 3D element such as a globe. Usually AR is made on flat 2D surfaces but the globe is round and has depth. After the successful development the dream of an AR technology based globe became true. CHALLENGE: With other AR Products they have a flat layout/design but with AR Globe it has an spherical design. With the spherical shape it much more difficult to use normal AR functions to capture and display so creating algorithms and functions to be able to over this was very challenging. NAME: NeoBear PROFILE: NeoBear develops AR (Augmented Reality) technology based toys for children to enhance their creativity and learning skills. The focus is “edutainment", which is defined by learning in a playful way. The initial goal was the wish to combine traditional educative products with new upcoming virtual technologies. By combining these areas, such as a classical standing globe and AR technologies, Neobear was not just developing products for children, but furthermore paving also the way for future generations into the field of technology-based learning tools. The continuous extension of the product scope over the past decade added to the initial AR card based product line several new, such as the AR Globe or the brand new Mageno. Beside the development of new physical products, an equal attention was given to the extension of the virtual AR content. In addition to the products, Neobear created a 52 episodes strong cartoon series, which is available on the most internet related media and was broadcasted through several well-known TV stations. We extended out product scope continuously over the past years, which enabled us to add to our initial AR card based product line several new, such as the AR Globe or the brand new Mageno. Beside the development of new physical products, we focus in an equal way on the extension of our virtual AR content. In addition to our products, we created a 52 episodes strong cartoon series, which is available on the most internet related media and was broadcasted through several well-known TV stations. |
