DESIGN NAME: Kingdom Sneaker
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Mens fashion footwear
INSPIRATION: Kingdom footwear love and passion for heritage sneaker culture began when we were kids in the late 80’s. When vintage models were re-released and Sneaker Freaker magazine was formed in Melbourne the team felt like anything was possible. Then when the three partners shook hands on it, we embarked on a journey that even the most hardened entrepreneur would have cut short.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Kingdom sneakers is a limited edition luxury footwear brand that focuses on innovation and design. The magnetized strap is evidence on the new thinking around footwear closure. Everything the brand creates is both collectible and individual. With a strong focus on both art and craft Kingdom footwear endeavors to create experiences that are memorable and tangible. This means that each touch point, for example, the pop-up stores are not only an opportunity to buy the product but experience the brand.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The rare earth magnetic strap empowers the user by fitting exactly to the last of the foot. Traditional velcro needs to be open an close a number of times. Where as the magnetic strap finds its natural position and magnetises.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project has taken 2-4 years from partnership to production.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Premium leather with a rare earth magnetised strap.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The research around molding and constructing a piece of footwear for Kingdom was completely new. The company comprises of trained graphic designers so the world of industrial design was an exciting new adventure. This is why Kingdom wanted to innovate the traditional sneaker offering. Considering the premium nature of the brand they felt that velcro on the strap was not premium. They thought why to re-invent velcro when you can design a new strap closure. This had never been done before. It is a unique and subtle design trademark.
CHALLENGE: The challenge on this project was to create a truly limited edition brand. The normal minimum order quantity does not usually accommodate such small companies.

NAME: Kingdom Sneakers
PROFILE: Designed by collectors, for collectors, Kingdom Sneakers is a limited edition run of luxe footwear. The first signature Kingdom footwear is the product of a handshake over a couple of beers between two brothers and a close friend. Sadly, prior to the first Kingdom release, this close friend lost his life to mental illness, leaving the brothers vowing to continue on with his entrepreneurial legacy.
Hailing from Melbourne, the members of Kingdom have certainly not compromised on the craft, with each of the limited edition pairs being individually numbered and laser engraved. They also feature rare earth magnetized straps, electroplated gold accessories, full-grain premium leather and luxury cushioned innersole.
