RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The goal of the project is to offer a freestanding three-seater sofa in the manor of the iconic molded plywood furniture pieces of the twentieth Century. This has been done by examining designs such as the Eames Lounge Chair of Charles and Ray Eames, the Plywood Dining Chairs of Duba Mobelindustri and the Curved Sofa of Martin Stoll. Upon examination of these pieces, it becomes clear that the designers where deeply interested in developing and mastering the manufacturing technique of molded plywood, due to its functional and appealing characteristics; which are suitable to a wide range of applications.
CHALLENGE: Major aspects like manufacturability, aesthetics and ergonomic principles were carefully considered the development of the product with the aim to present a good design.
