RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The stylistic research was based on the analysis of basic geometric forms. Rounded corners are not only easier for our eyes, but make information easier to process.
We have carefully calculated the comfortable usage on the daily basis at regular home space. First prototypes were made of plywood, but this material looked rough, so we decided to cover plywood base with oak veneer and to make foldable legs from solid oak. The most exciting part of the design development was a creation of foldable legs and their details and of course the realization of the final product.
CHALLENGE: The creative challenge of MONAI could be divided into two parts of development. The first stage is choosing the right form, materials and object dimensions suitable for both: children and adults. Second phase of challenge is the actual fabrication and assembly. Round base is quite a challenge if its not mass produced.
