| DESIGN NAME: VacuumGlow PRIMARY FUNCTION: Clock INSPIRATION: Our idea to create a quality VacuumGlow clock has evolved from the idea of continuity. We appreciate vintage and do not overload it with trendy features. We have kept all the exclusive vintage parts to it while adding only the absolute essentials. We have combined gas discharge indicators and advanced technologies in order to create an unusual and upmarket VacuumGlow clock. Now we understand how truly inspiring time aesthetics can be. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: VacuumGlow nixie tube clock is an organic combination of vintage elements and modern technologies. Being based on the very rare lamps, the clock is truly unique. The last production was at the end of the 1970s. Unique lamps will naturally compliment a casual modern casing. The indicators' soft glow softens the contours. The finishing touch to the image is specially processed glass panel which provides a warm and delicate light, thus balancing a solid case. The internal design precision determines the exterior. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: You just need to turn on switch like in the 1960s. The clock needs usual power supply 220V, can be used everywhere. The clock can be controlled via an application on your smartphone by Bluetooth 4.0protocol. The applications are now available on Google Play and App Store. The GPS/GLONASS function is responsible for time accuracy. The data will be updated from the satellite if you place the clock within 2-3 meters from the window. So, you can always see only the exact time. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project was launched in June, 2015. By winter 2015 we had implemented our first idea, the creation of the original prototype of a vacuum-tube clock. We had produced several pieces of them. After the technical details had been developed, we started our factory production. In the early spring our special app was ready and was approved by Apple. It appeared in Apple Store. In 5 to 8 May, 2016 VacuumGlow took part as an exhibitor in High End Show in Munich. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The case of VacuumGlow is simple and quiet. The case is machine-cut and made of aluminum. It is painted with the help of micro-arc oxidation technology , which simultaneously helps to protect metal from corrosion and ensures pleasant tactile properties of the surface. VacuumGlow also has specially processed glass. This accurate method of processing is called water jet cutting, which makes our glass as thin as possible. The decorative lighting completes the image of the clock and sets the mood. You can select any backlight color and change it at any time using the mobile app on your smartphone. RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The most important challenge for our start was connected with our goal. We wanted to be the first who will launch mass-production of original nixie tube clocks, be the pioneer project that accelerates the introduction of mass technology into everyday life, while taking care of your personality. Firstly, for a long time we were searching for the rare nixie tubes. We use only New Old Stock, that is why we carefully selected indicators and only after the approval by our technical control department we were able to move on. Then we developed the designs of vacuum-tube clocks that set them apart from all the usual models. After plenty of pilot batches we finally managed to find the manufactures able to ensure the quality we wanted for our cases and special manually processed glass from the very start of our design project. After the plan for both the manufacturers and the supply chain for the necessary case parts was established, we started bringing to life our idea of reliable and high-quality packaging design for storage and transportation. And after all these improvements of every little detail, after numerous experiments with colors, negotiations with different contractors and several months of waiting for the first batches, we finally created our Vacuumglow clocks and realized, that due to this design we really do convey our idea of time. CHALLENGE: At least once everyone asks us: is it only a clock? Through our VacuumGlow clock we are making the exact and clear point - you do not have to surround yourself with smart gadgets that set your alarm with the power of your mind in order to understand the beauty of time. And for us it is the most important creative challenge to share with people - our design idea of time with smooth lines and concise shape. And yes, it is only a clock, because it is enough. NAME: VacuumGlow PROFILE: The Russian company VacuumGlow introduced one more use of the technologies from the past – the nixie tube clock. Gas-discharged indicators that show time at the VacuumGlow clock were the technical breakthrough in the middle of the 20th century. However, in the 70s new technologies forced them out. VacuumGlow is a vacuum-tube clock that combines vintage indicator elements and cutting edge technologies. It is a pioneer project that accelerates the introduction of mass technology into everyday life, taking care of your personality. |
