| DESIGN NAME: Double Dog Run PRIMARY FUNCTION: Tangle Free Tie Out INSPIRATION: I have two dogs, one that climbs and one that digs. A fence was a waste of money and time for my two dogs. Day after day I would have to go outside and untangle the dog leashes so they could play for a little while. I decided that there had to be a better way to allow my two dogs to play without getting tangled. After a few weeks, I had not only figured out how to keep the dogs from tangling, but also how to keep them secured in the ground. This project was about security and convenience. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Double Dog Run System is a tie out system for two dogs. The system allows two dogs to play freely without getting tangled. In addition to tangle free, the dog run is also strong holding up to eight-hundred pounds at a time. The design for the dog run is simple, however improvements on the tie out ground anchor, and the hardware made this product what it is today. The dog run is portable, offers safety and an excellent experience for dogs and their owners. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The double dog run allows dogs to run in 360 degrees. The product can support dogs from 15 pounds up to 250 pounds. The product is portable, strong and can be installed and uninstalled quickly. The dog run will operate using one leash or two, but no more than two. The double dog run is a better tie out all around simply because of its strength and the fact that the dogs have a constant space to run without getting tagged up in anything. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The Double Dog Run was invented in Fall of 2011. It has since been produced and sold online intermittently. Starting January 2014, sales have increased and now sells on our website and on Amazon. In 2016, sales continue to grow and the reviews are very impressive. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The dog run is designed for use in all types of weather. The materials are all hard ABS plastic, steel and galvanized steel. The leashes are all vinyl coated for extra protection and to allow them to slide across one another. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 3657.6 mm x 3657.6 mm x 1219.2 mm TAGS: dog tie out, tie out two dogs, tangle free tie out, double dog run, double dog tie out RESEARCH ABSTRACT: I needed this product for my two dogs, so I invented it. I did some internet research but found nothing. I was able to figure out how the product would not tangle by using a horizontal and vertical axis for the leashes. With some help from my brother it was simplified. However the stress of keeping the tie out in the ground was more difficult. I created a base plate for the ground anchor to wedge itself against and disperse the force outward. Combine that with an upside-down bowl to keep the leashes at the perfect angle and boom, an instant solution. CHALLENGE: Once I had the design and security down on how the dog run would work, I had to begin thinking about others using it. I currently have the challenge of convincing people that are against tie out systems that this one is different. Now, the goal is to try to educate more people and get more dogs adopted and rescued this year because our product can help anyone. The dog run is for one or two dogs, not just for two. Next is to continue to prove that this dog run is the best option for everyone and the carbon footprint is much smaller than a fenced yard.
