DESIGN NAME: The Golden Age
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Women Haute Couture
INSPIRATION: I draw my inspiration from Elizabeth: The Golden Age film, which incorporates my ideal from that period - armour style patterns on top conveying "a period of primordial peace, harmony and prosperity".The period piece reflects an ideal of one striving for one's rights, fighting for future generations, and importantly, having the courage to stand up for oneself, country and people they love.I reflect upon the Golden Age, when noble women dressed in this manner, slowly and elegantly. The settings grand and lavish.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This dress is about expressing the definition of "the golden age", a period of primordial peace, harmony, stability, and prosperity."Gold" is being expressed by dyed textiles (high-quality silk in a color gradient, with different shades of gold, yellow and orange-yellow). "Prosperity of the golden age" is being expressed by balloon silhouette, which conveys the meaning of affluence. Smocking details conveys the meaning of paddy, the golden age is a period when humans don't have to worry about food.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Elizabeth: The Golden Age film, photography, books about the definition of golden age, smocking techniques, countless times of fabrics' dying experiments
CHALLENGE: The hardest part is countless times of dying experiments in order to achieve the ideal color, and also the color control of each pattern. Each pattern of the skirt was at least width 70cm , length 160cm to create the balloon silhoutte (some width were more than 100cm), it was hard to achieve the balance of the color and create similar color tone in all patterns.
The volume of the skirt is another difficult part because i didn't use hoop skirt (the most traditional way) to create the volume and shape. The balloon silhouette is being done by calculated patterns, tucks, smocking techniques and different tulles with different stiffness.
