DESIGN NAME: Muse
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Knockdown Chair
INSPIRATION: MUSE, is a knockdown, plastic (polypropylene re-enforced with glass-fibers) chair with metal frame, designed to fit in commercial and residential, indoor and outdoor spaces. The main challenge of MUSE project was to create a chair that would differentiate itself within this highly competitive market segment by employing distinctive aesthetical as well functional characteristics. In addition, although it is a mass-produced, knockdown chair, it should maintain its image of a quality product.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: MUSE is a knockdown chair suitable for indoor & outdoor. Its smooth cantilever back shell provides great support & flexibility. The bold plastic easy-to-screw legs can be easily regulated in order to adjust their height and stabilize the chair if placed on uneven surfaces. The main body is made of PP reinforced with glass fibers. The legs are gas injected for a lighter yet strong foundation, while the glides are made of soft-rubber, double injected with PP, to protect the floors from scratches.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Beyond aesthetical purposes, all the design decisions made during MUSE’s development, took under consideration functional and practical requirements. A key feature and function of the legs for example, is that they can be twisted and in uneven floors, or other surfaces, to regulate their height to stabilize the chair. Furthermore, the three main parts of the chair (seat, metal connector, legs) were designed in such a way so the end customer could easily and fast assemble the chair without using any tools, and to minimize its shipping volume.
