DESIGN NAME: Wooden spoon
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Rice spoon
INSPIRATION: I am an architect who encompasses a strong appreciation of working with wood. This led to the idea of designing a spoon using small offcuts of which is usually considered waste in woodworking workshops, and would therefore be discarded material. I found as many of these smaller offcuts as I could to turn into pieces of art work and began experimenting with the idea of custom designed pieces of cutlery and furniture that fits the personal character of the user and the right scale.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This custom designed spoon, made of Jacaranda wood, has been carved in such a way that the body of the spoon follows the natural grain of the wood and also features a lower scooped edge on the left side. The handle has been carved to follow the formation of an adult females’ right-handed grip and blends seamlessly to the body of the spoon and allows for a fluid motion in serving rice. This spoon is a feature in my architectural custom designed cutlery collection.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This custom designed wooden spoon ease the process of serving rice for a right handed person. It's shaped the way that it blends with the flow of the user's hand .

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The important considerations:
I needed to choose a soft wood (easy for carving and turning) which is safe with the food.
Jacaranda wood has a subtle grain and it was good for the design purpose.
In order to shape the spoon a set of chisels, a saw, sanding papers.
were used.
The outcome is a beautiful and functional wooden spoon which ease the process of rice serving in it's own way.
CHALLENGE: Finding the right wood,
Finding the right tools to shape the wood
serious of sketches were done in order to find the best way that the item can blend and follow the motion of the hand
