| DESIGN NAME: Sonoro PRIMARY FUNCTION: Public sound furniture INSPIRATION: Sonoro project is born thanks to the community where intervention neighborhoods adjacent to Jardin Circunvalar, eight comuna of Medellin. Project takes place in this community in particular demonstrate various sociocultural practices due to the high number of people from the Pacific and other regions of the country that inhabit it also in the area is evidence of a high influx of children and adolescents and the spaces for recreation in the area are limited. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Public furniture-making for hillside areas of Medellin (Colombia) in order to stimulate and generate recreation/leisure activities through the sound (music) in the public spaces. It is composed of two timbales, one hang and two drumsticks, the sound project invites the community to a new experience, where objects are a means of expression and at the same time can generate knowledge and a better quality of life, providing a new type of inclusive public furniture. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: "Sonoro" project invites the community to have a new experience where objects are a means of expression and at the same time can generate knowledge and a better quality of life, providing a new type of inclusive public furniture. Sound generation invite community to practice music, this happens because the user interaction through drumsticks or their hands touching the surface of each instrument, the tone depends on where and how hard the user hits it. They are guided through graphic elements. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in July 2015 in Medellin and finished in November of 2015 in Medellin. Was exhibited in Academic showroom Salon de Diseno at Universidad Nacional de Colombia sede Palmira in December 2015 and in Academic showroom Antonio Mesa Jaramillo at Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana in March 2016. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The structure of the element is made of metallic material with the aim of improve its resonance (important for areas with larger interaction, area of hang, the two timbales and the snares of sound). The drumsticks consist of a metal handle and a contact surface made of artificial polymer (plastic). SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Dimensions: 994 mm x 467 mm x 1000 mm. Material: Iron Weight: 40 Kgs TAGS: social design, public instrument, music, social inclusion, sound project, public spaces, industrial design, cultural analysis RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The purpose of the project is to analyze interaction of the community in public spaces through sound music, where vulnerable people live in. Using tools as inventories, field trips and meetings with the community in the area of intervention. Delivered and installed where people interact playing the instrument, it responds to the needs of inclusion of cultural practices and recreation in the public space through elements of percussion as a representation of cultural diversity and identity. CHALLENGE: One of the most complex obstacles was the install the furniture because the place of intervention is located in the urban boundaries of the city of Medellin, the higher areas of the city, but it took place thanks to the articulation of the project with public organizations, in this case The Empresa de Desarrollo Urbano of Medellin which allowed the realization of the project thanks to the availability of the transportation in order to bring the instrument's project to the space required.
