| DESIGN NAME: Red Line PRIMARY FUNCTION: Cat-Overpass INSPIRATION: People are able to follow traffic rules to avoid injuries and deaths, while stray cats are unable to follow human rules of traffic. Once those poor cats break into highway of oncoming cars, it is possible for them to get hurt or killed. Designers can improve the design of footbridge to avoid the tragedy repeating. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: According to the habits of cat, designers can install a secure channel, namely Cat-Overpass, in the bottom of the footbridge and they also induce the stray cats to go through the channel. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This design combined with components is cueved component, climbing component, turning component and straight component PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Started September 2015 and finished January 2016 at University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Zhongshan Institute |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: By using high strength wire netting with corrosion protection, it is easy for installation and maintenance. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: W1500mm*D400mm*H450m TAGS: cat, overpass, animals design, climbing component, cat grass RESEARCH ABSTRACT: It was found in the survey, an adult stray cat died in a traffic accident probability of twenty percent, there are no design for stray cats of crossing the road nowadays. The experiment indicates the edible grasses for cats include wheat sprout, barley grass, oat grass and setaira viridis. CHALLENGE: The cat likes licking its coat to keep it clean and it will have a hairball in the stomach. The cat grass aids in vomiting or passing the hairball. Meanwhile, the smell of cat grass will induce the cat to find the right and safe channel which is Cat-Overpass.
