DESIGN NAME: The power of charm
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Brooch
INSPIRATION: Each age of women can use different flowers to describe their beauty, but I use an animal-fish to say a woman's beauty. To that, I use an irregular pearl which looks like a small fish, and I presume it as the woman whose beauty is innocent. After the woman explores in a life sea and experience many things, her beauty will full of wisdom and more attractive. Thus, I design this fish brooch to tell a charming woman’s beauty.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The gems I used in this design were unlike a normal luxurious jewelry. I use moonstone as the fish eye, the light reflected from the moonstone looked like a real eyeball. On the fishtail, the attractive part were color change garnets, which were pears shape. I used these garnets to imply a woman’s reaction of wisdom, how is charming.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The charm of power is a symbol of a attractive woman and it is wearable.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in March 2012 in Taiwan and finished in July 2014 in Taiwan.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The power of charm is a brooch with pendant function. This work produced in traditionel goldsmith technology, that also includes wax carving and gem setting technics.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: I started to design this fish brooch from 2012 to 2013 and processed making in 2014. In order to design a beautiful fish object, I started to feed fishes. I also worked in a three different jewelry companies to learn how to design luxurious jewelries, and observed the personalities of women (whom I though were charming).
CHALLENGE: The challenges of this work were in each of making process. Wax curving master needed to understand my concept of the design and had good hands to curve the living fish shape. Wax curving took almost 75 days to finish the wax model. Next to goldsmith, the most difficult task was to compose the fish section and right background section perfectly. Stone setting, all color corundums were selected and arranged before started setting, during the setting process, “put a gem and dewed a hole”, that was to ensure all gens would be smoothly to stay on the fishtail surface.
