| DESIGN NAME: Modern Mansion in City PRIMARY FUNCTION: Interior Space INSPIRATION: Inspired by the area and characteristic of this 1,900 square feet old building, we reshaped the interiors of the apartment to create a contemporary and open-plan living space in order to make it spaciousness stand out. Older buildings in Hong Kong tend to have a larger usable area, thinner foundations or structural walls which commonly can be relocated easily and thus providing much more generous space for the owner. The original layout had an enclosed kitchen, tiny helper’s room and washroom and a separate side hall - a layout that makes the entire space look minimized and gloomy. Designer transformed the previously unimpressive interiors by pull down almost all the original walls and wooden partitions of the living room and the kitchen so as to create this new look of the apartment. Cooking is the interest of the owner and thus we created the open kitchen with the 3 meter length bar table to fit with the needs of the user. It is also an ideal space for the family gathering and entertaining friends and relatives whenever they visit. The dining table with 3 designer pendants serves the function as the focus point of the apartment. Being integrated with the open kitchen, the upper level is now clear, united and therefore created a highly serviceable and large entertaining area for the place. Our client can enjoy the openness and functionality of the new space. On the other hand, the glass panel of the open-plan study room further creates this spacious atmosphere of the apartment where study is no more limited within the four-walls. The large windows in lower level are the main source of sunlight of the apartment. With the use of the 2-sides display cabinet and the half-length clear glass partition between the two levels, lights are allowed to penetrate throughout 2 areas. The extensity of the apartment is increased by enhancing the design of an open-plan living space throughout the apartment. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: To create a Mansion like place in the city, the apartment has to be full of open living spaces. We used transparent partitions and furniture to replace walls to separate different areas. An open kitchen and an island table were made to be the focus of the apartment and became the best leisure space for the family. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: What we consider to be the most important is to satisfy the needs of the family and a full use of spaces inside the apartment at the same time. Therefore, we conducted the interior design based on their living practices, habits, space requirement and make sure all of them can share the best family moment at this contemporary open-plan apartment. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project lasted for 7 months to be completed and it is located at Sunpeace Court in Hong Kong. FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Interior Space and Exhibition Design |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: To increase the visual effect and the extensity of the interior spaces, a French made ceiling range hood from the brand, Roblin, instead of traditional wall mounted hood has been used at the open kitchen. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The apartment has 1900 Square Feet. TAGS: Modern, Manison, Open Kithchen, Interior, Space RESEARCH ABSTRACT: We interviewed everyone who are going to live in the apartment about their living practices, habits and any other special requirement before starting the project. CHALLENGE: The biggest challenge of the project was to create not only an open-plan living place but also a place with enough privacy for anyone living there. By pulling down almost all the original walls, wooden partitions of the living room and kitchen, we re-arranged a better place for each of the function rooms according to the actual needs of each one.
