| DESIGN NAME: Smartisan U1 PRIMARY FUNCTION: Mobile Phone INSPIRATION: When smartphones become commodity, the market is flooded with superficial language describing mediocre products. An object lost it’s objectivity. Smartphone is an everyday object now, the most frequently used daily object. We don’t want to just make another affordable smartphone, but an easy to get along with and easy to use everyday object. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Smartisan U1 is designed to be appropriate rather than only affordable. Like many everyday objects, it is humble yet elegant, without any compromise on design quality. It has an iconic front face inherited from Smartisan T1, whose proximity and ambient light sensors are integrated with ear speaker into a single pill shape. The changeable back covers for U1 come a range of rich colors, and the classic stripes design makes the phone interact with hands tactilely. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: More and more smartphones are using metal as its body material, most of them are driven by market forces rather than material integrity. Smartisan U1 use plastic in a simple but elegant way. From how materials are touched to how the form and color are perceived. Eventually becoming a product whose material property is transformed into design quality. The thermal conductivities of plastic together with the classic lines design on the back cover makes the phone interact with hands subtly well.
