DESIGN NAME: Serpentine Tiara
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Tiara
INSPIRATION: The inspiration behind this piece was to add a contemporary spin on the tiara, a classic accessory usually associated with royalty, and thereby make it more accessible to modern day brides. Takayas wanted this tiara's design to flow in a very organic way, so while he was designing the piece he spent a lot of time studying braided hairstyles in order to capture the same looping, constant rhythm a woman uses to weave a braid.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The loops of the tiara wind around in snake-like motif, meant to appear as one continuous pattern of crystals. The deceptively simple design is highlighted by glittering rows of white Swarovski Zirconias and features an eight carat pear cut white topaz. This feminine piece looks stunning from any angle and will sparkle in any kind of lighting.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This tiara is worn on the crown of the head. Its looping, winding pattern would compliment a braided hairstyle well because the design incorporates the same elegant, continuous flow of a woman's braid.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: This design was completed over the course of 2 months in Takayas Mizuno's studio in Downtown Los Angeles, CA.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: While he was researching this tiara's design, Takayas watched many instructional hairstyle braiding videos in order to incorporate an organic, woven pattern in the tiara.
CHALLENGE: The biggest creative challenge of designing this tiara was not to make it too complex. Its elegant simplicity is meant to be worn with any type of hairstyle; too many loops and levels would have easily caught strands of hair when adjusting or removing it.
