DESIGN NAME: Pimp My Pencil
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Add-On, Toy
INSPIRATION: There were two motivations. On one hand my approach was to find out what is possible to create with a 3d printer, on the other hand to design something funny. Boring periods in offices then inspired me to create these unique objects as pencil add-ons.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: A 3d printed set of small add-ons that can be attached on a normal pencil. As already mentioned all items were 3d printed (except some parts like knives or usb sticks). The set contains a usb stick, a cutter, a compass, a catapult, a LED light, a licorize stick, cutlery, a paper clip and a screwdriver.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: All the objects work only together with the common hexagonal pencil, for example from "Faber Castell"
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project was made during the winter semester of 2013/2014 at the Free University of Bozen Bolzano.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: All objects were firstly drawn with "Rhino". After that they have been realized by a 3D printer, working with laser and nylon powder. Thanks to this, a high grade of perfection can be guaranteed.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Various dimensions, no item is bigger dann 5cm. Everything fits into a cardbord box not larger than a A5 paper.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Trying to practically find out how detailed objects can be 3d printed. In the same time it was also important to create something not too conservative but also to include fun.
