DESIGN NAME: NFT 3AC
PRIMARY FUNCTION: 5G Router
INSPIRATION: Each room of the building is similar to a separate cell of the community that is braided as a network of different connections. Each segment is strong and secure, alike but unique and together with others create a perfect structure, a pattern of co-working and support, that conceptually represented as subtle honeycomb pattern on the surface of the product. The goal was to design a device that is visually neutral, elegant and clear, with a touch of lightness and unique recognizable outlook.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: High security access point for use in inner private or public spaces features simple installation, power, and wide range of control properties. Sloping wall of the Wireless Internet connection device and rounded edges helps to reduce the shadow cast, so it remains neutral, but also keeps the product recognizable.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The output of the device ensure the quality of the wireless Internet connection up to the 10 floors of any building and supports a large number of online users. Management features allow to limit the flow of data and content, assign individual passwords for individual users.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in June 2014 in Vilnius, Lithuania and finished in the end of 2015.
FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Digital and Electronic Device Design
|
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The housing is made of cast aluminum and molded plastic parts.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Dimentions of the router: 191 x 191 x 35 mm
TAGS: router, internet, wireless, access, point, device, aluminium, plastic, network, honeycomb
RESEARCH ABSTRACT: In the beginning of project market research, competitor analysis, stylistic benchmark helped to define the main goal of the product design. Brainstorm and braindrawing sessions in collaboration with representatives of company were held to reveal stylistic approach. Hand-drawn sketching and rendering tools were used in development process to expose the ideas. Co-designing process with universal engineering tools helped to prepare 3D models for mass production in the most efficient way.
CHALLENGE: The aim is to design a simple and elegant form for router to be used both in public and private inner spaces.
Form should be clear and unnoticeable on a daily basis and at the same time to have a strong recognizable character.
