DESIGN NAME: ECHOES
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residence
INSPIRATION: Inspired by paper sculpture, the design uses lines and blocks as drawn on the paper. By turning those objects on the paper from 2D into 3D elements, those lines and blocks become real shapes in the space. The simple cutting, stretching lines, and realistic and void structure of blocks compose an interesting space.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The simple elements, such as lines and blocks, are cut and rearranged in the space. The layers of elements are juxtaposed between the entity and the void. The use of basic elements and light/shadow movement creates a rich image of the space.
In addition to combining structure and feng shui, this artistic work named “Giving Birth” provides a vibrant form as a symbol of endless life to express an oriental culture in awe in regard to life energy.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Light is the soul of a space. However, it is relatively rare to observe the vastness of light being introduced from large windowpanes in Taiwan. An independent TV wall resonates perfectly with the lines of the ceiling, so that the light seems to dance across the space.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in May 2015 and completed in December 2015, and place in Taiwan.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: 1. The concrete materials and different engineering methods create different textures. The harmonious and conflicting renderings give the space changing faces.
2. The installation art is made by an environmentally-friendly recycled material called GAIA with good adjustment to humidity and high plasticity to enhance visual tension.
3. Dance table (or dancing table) is made of 9mm thick pig iron in the shape of a dancer’s silhouette, emphasizing the conflict and beauty of hardness and softness.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The suspended sculpted wall at the vestibule fulfills the need of good Feng Shui, while injecting new life to the wall. The indented roundness conveys a sense of harmony appreciated most by the Chinese people. Dark grey, dark blue and gold are decent colors that convey respect for traditions and culture.
CHALLENGE: It is a breakthrough in the trend of Asian high-end properties that mainly uses concrete materials due to its natural and simple aspects that perfectly portray the subtle changes between static and dynamic conditions in oriental culture. This model defines luxury houses at another level, i.e. expressing rich life in minimalist space.
The entrance partition is treated as an installation art blending in the structure, which not only represents the idea that art is structure and structure is art, but also combines elements of feng shui most valued in the housing of oriental culture.
