UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: "One Day in Paradise. Creative Individuality Amongst the Crowd." was created as final assignment for the BA degree program Information Design at FH Joanneum in Graz, Austria. It covers topics such as taste, style and individuality as well as imitation, inspiration and identity. It contains interviews with young industry professionals as well as illustrations and illustrative infographics.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: It is a book that can be read normally. It has shorter, salmon colored paper in some sections, which indicate interviews taken, which are optional to read.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: From research over writing to final design and printing the whole project took 2 months to complete.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: This thesis addresses the necessary requirements for young designers to build their own artistic and personal individuality and the significance of their individuality, questioning whether their longing for being different results in being just one amongst many. The thesis offers path breaking steps for young designers for creating one’s personal creative paradise and highlights the importance of balance and the exchange of ideas with other creatives to reach their aim of creating their own paradise of uniqueness. For this I used electronic articles, magazine articles, books, online talks and videos as research tools and also conducted interviews with designers who are already established. These designers were questioned about the researched topics to gain insight into real-life experiences.
CHALLENGE: It was challenging to find scientific information about the researched topics, especially more recent information. Therefore I conducted interviews myself to learn in-depth from real-life experiences. I also had to find a way to display the interview in an interesting way without interrupt the reading flow. Therefore I decided to give the interviews their own space at each chapter beginning, on salmon colored (instead of white) paper. These pages are also shorter and narrower than the normal pages in the book, to especially highlight that these are optional to read and function as inserts. Another challenge was to visualize hard facts in a fun and engaging way that the reader would enjoy. For this I created illustrative infographics with a fun twist.
