DESIGN NAME: Wave Watch
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Wrist Watch
INSPIRATION: Watch case is inspired from the waves made by droplets falling into water (ripples) and time circles are inspired from Ziggurats (massive structures built in the ancient Mesopotamian valley and Iranian plateau, having the form of a terraced step pyramid of successively receding stories). the Wave watch enjoys a simple and minimalist design and coloring. As opposed to other mechanical wrist watches, in Wave watch only current time can be seen through a small window, which helps make the minimalist design bold. The overall form of the Wave watch represents the recurrence of time, more than any mechanical wrist watch that has ever been made.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Wave watch has both digital and mechanical functions. The mechanical part consists of two counter surfaces, with the smaller one showing hours and the bigger one displaying minutes. The two rotate with the help of a mechanical engine. The numbers enjoy the highest possible contrast, and back-light in order to achieve the highest visibility.
At the heart of the face of the watch lays the OLED display, which shows temperature, date, weekdays, and a circular chronometer around it.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: In common mechanical wrist watches the hands are the movable parts an the surface is fixed. That needs the whole surface for the hand to rotate. in Wave watch, the surface rotates so that much space is free to add an OLED display. This display can add additional necessary information such as temperature, date and weekdays, plus a circular chronometer.
With the help of main button you can set the time, there is a two-step pull for button, first step sets the hour and the second step sets the minute surface.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Project started in June 2015 and completed in November 2015.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: There are certain situations in which you cannot read the face of your wrist watch and need to be able to read the time from the side-view, like when you are holding something with your hands and you're unable to rotate your wrist to see the watch's face.
CHALLENGE: The problem with ordinary mechanical wrist watches is that the face of the watch cannot be seen from different angles.
The main approach for the Wave watch design is to switch the hands rotation to surface rotation. With the help of a window we can define time, save some dial space to provide a 15mm OLED display. With the use of different diameters for hour and minute counter surfaces and their height, we achieved the possibility of showing time from both front view and side view.
