DESIGN NAME: 8 pyramids
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Table
INSPIRATION: The designer was interested in solving of trigonometric problem - the transformation of a cube into a ball. The solution to this problem was embodied in a real subject - in the form of a table. The designer was motivated by his desire to get rid of the rectangular cube joint, improve ergonomics to free space for legs sitting at a table and replace the usual vertical legs of the table which are the edges of the parallelepiped with the bearing elements emanating from the center.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The table "8 pyramids" looks like a space object. It is completely symmetrical and has no top or bottom. This is a conceptually new design in the style of constructivism. Due to such a framework it is possible to provide a high strength and stability of the construction. The support for the table is a eight-pointed star. Improve ergonomics: free space for legs sitting at the table.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Common vertical legs of the table, which are the edges of the parallelepiped, are replaced by the supporting elements emanating from the center. Table 8 pyramids blends well into the interior of the minimalistic style, Hi-Tech, moreover, it simultaneously may become its dominant. It adorns the interior of a mixed style and Art Deco as well. Thanks to the fact that the support of the table is an independent supporting module, it is possible to combine several supports to create the tables of different sizes and shapes.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project has been developed in Russia for several years. The first model was created in 2004.
Development of the forms passed several stages. That was the transformation of the cube to a ball. From the cubooctahedron to a spheroid. Each step meant the creation of a new model of the table. The table 8 pyramids was exhibited in HOMI Moscow in 2015.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: All parts are manufactured on mechanical equipment. They are connected to each other by means of treaded connections: bolts, nuts. The design contains no two parts joined by welding. The design of the table is facile to be raised by anyone. And for children it could become an interesting game as if the assembly of the designer sets. The decorative surface of all steel parts - polished or matt, coating - nickel-chrome, titanium nitride, painting.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Depth x Width x Height 720 x 720 x 720. Diametr of the table top - 1072. The parts of the table (the parts of the support) fit into a compact package, which is delivered to a consumer. The table top is placed in a separate container. Table tops may be made in the location of the consumer.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: To reach this form the author used his knowledge in the physics, geometry, as well as mathematics. Also the author took into account his personal experience in the manufacture of metal parts. Designer developed the foundation for a table, solving a difficult task of joining nine geometric figures - eight pyramids and a one cube. A surprising finding of the designer was the transformation of a cube into a ball. A ball is formed by rings which are precisely joined by the edges of the pyramids.
CHALLENGE: The main objective of the author was a search for a radically new form. During the creation of this form the author examined and studied many variants of the embodiments of his idea to create the most technologically sophisticated product. The entire structure is literally decomposed into molecules. The molecule - its structure and bounds - was the key solution of the form, which did not come immediately.
