DESIGN NAME: CLIP
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Table
INSPIRATION: The birth of CLIP has been inspired by my own experience in Italy, not the place where I was born. I rented a place to live and visited IKEA, one of the most popular furniture shops in Europe, and grabbed furniture. Several boxes arrived at my place and I had to assembly my furniture on my own.
That’s when I realized that there are no tools whatsoever in the house to assemble my furniture.
Anyone should be able to assemble it without any tool!
All of these thoughts have led to designing CLIP.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The CLIP features ease-of-use assembly that does not require any assembly tool.
The CLIP has a steel leg-shaped line engraved on its top as deep as the steel. This table is designed to quick and easy assembly by simply mounting two steel legs on its top. A piece of strong elastic string is used to tie these two legs together tightly and to assemble the table in a simple and robust manner. And this area intertwined by the string is reserved to store small items such as bag and a book for users.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: To assemble the table CLIP, all you have to do is to fix two legs (made of powder coated steel) to both sides of the table and then to tie them together using a piece of strong elastic polyester woven string.
You may place some of you personal belongings on the area of strong tied together for your convenience.
In addition, you are able to see what’s under the table through the glass on the table top without even bending your back.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: As a matter fact, the table CLIP is in the concept design stage.
I have retained this idea inspired by my personal experience since 2012 when I settled in Europe for the first time and started to turn the idea into product design in March 2015. All design work was completed in August 2015.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: I have made full use of physical properties of steel that are bendable and pliable.
In addition, the bent and curved area serves as a formidable structure as part of the physical property of the material.
The structural issue is completely resolved by fitting these steel legs onto the top of the plastic table with the line engraved on it.
Furthermore, a piece of strong elastic polyester woven string fixes steel legs more firmly and serves as a rack to hold objects.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Width 1800mm x Depth x 900mm x height 750mm

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The foremost task was to minimize time and effort spent on assembly by allows consumers to assembly their furniture without a tool.
The table CLIP project started from research into basic materials.
I have selected steel and plastic, two of the most common and universal materials, based on my research. I have studied other projects to come up with the optimal thickness of steel legs. Of course, there was a precondition that packing and delivery of the table must be easy and simple as my idea originated from the assembly and delivery of furniture, after all. I have take weights taken into account especially for delivery. I conducted research on this and came to conclusion that the table top must be lightweight plastic.
CHALLENGE: What are steel legs going to look like?
This seemed to the biggest challenge. It is not exaggerating to say that the shape of a table top has already been determined.
However, design is about finding solutions to those problems. Therefore, I had to design a unique and distinctive table top and its associated legs accordingly. I believe that the biggest challenge in design work I have engaged in is that all parts of the table must be assembled without a tool and be sturdy enough to structurally support heavy loads under the design limitations and preconditions.
