DESIGN NAME: Veneza
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Sideboard
INSPIRATION: A gondola ride through the canals of Venice was the inspiration for the creation of this piece of such distinctive design. Observing the structure of the boats and their ornamental elements emerged the idea of using the remains of MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) boards to create a piece of solid structure and perfect fittings, as the Italian gondolas.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Its shape was found by the intersection of perfect plans and fittings, making this piece of art and design a solid and resistant element. Moreover, it is made of environmentally friendly material, the MDF, which is a material that provides stability in its dimensions. With its straight lines and geometric planes, the sideboard Veneza is an unusual design piece.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Attractive for its form is a piece that has an interesting and inviting aesthetics. There is the curiosity in finding out how it holds up. Can be used as adornment in rooms and support for decorative pieces.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project began in March 2014 in Teresina, Piaui. It was completed at the same place, in September of the same year.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The Venice sideboard is produced with 15mm MDF leftovers from the clippings of other design pieces. Its production process involves: choosing usable MDF pieces, cut in carpentry machinery following the project parts, assembly through fittings, screw fixing or specific glue for wood. Once ready the piece gets matte varnish coverage.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Through an applied research was possible to identify the size and shape of the parts and how they should be cut and fit based on the design drawings. The tests were designed to determine the overall size of the mobile, as well as the counterweight required for the top to sustain without a lateral support. The studies measured the maximum size to be reached by the piece as well as should be its assembly.
CHALLENGE: The main challenge in this research was to identify how the pieces should be cut and fitted so that the mobile had balance, beauty and self sustaining. In addition, the issue of sustainability and the attempt to give a new destination for the remains of MDF production coming from other pieces served as a guiding parameter of the project. It is a piece made with MDF remains, but it does not have the appearance of something made of leftovers, but something new and unusual.
