DESIGN NAME: Ready for Santorini
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Fashion Design
INSPIRATION: The preparation of this collection was like a trip away from the fast moving city to search the beauty of slowness. Santorini, surrounded by white villas on top of the ocean-facing cliffs, and its colors, particularly bring up the images of people who are very much relaxed and slowly moving about in their leisurely ways. Inspired by these images and colors, I chose the overall color tone of ivory for this work.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: I tried to make the work more fun by using the fabrics of both neoprene, which is sporty, and lace, which is highly feminine. Combining a few different feelings in a single work, this dress expresses well my design philosophy that a designer’s role is to discover yet a new concept as well as beauty.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Because of the neoprene fabric I used for this collection, the stretchiness feels as comfortable as some sportswear while still looking elegant. Some pieces look almost like a sports sweater with strings around the collar to adjust the tightness of the look.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: This project started in April 2015 in NYC. All the samples were finished by August 2015. Our official launch for this collection was launched on our website on September 1st of 2015. We will be exhibiting our collection in upcoming events in NYC and in Paris.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: In this collection, I tried emphasizing a hint of sassiness by adding a bit of bright orange cording on a subtle ivory neoprene fabric. This shows its conservative side with a feel of sportiness while expressing a little rebellious side as well.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The models for this collection had an average height of 180 cm. The longest piece for my collection is a size 2, medium with dimension of 431.8 mm.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The idea for this collection came to me while I was in Santorini, Greece. As I was looking over the balcony to see the white structures surrounding the beautiful clear waters, I knew this would be a great theme for my collection. I started to look for the right fabric in both S. Korea and in New York. For this collection I wanted a sense of formal wear while having the comfort to breathe. While attending my school, Parsons' annual presentation on upcoming trend reports, I immediately figured out the design for this collection.
CHALLENGE: As I combined laces and neoprene on my pieces, the laces felt a little awkward due to the neoprene being such a stretchy material. Because of the awkwardness with the laces, I had to go through several trial and error process to get the most comfortable yet balanced piece.
