DESIGN NAME: Raster
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Side Table
INSPIRATION: I was inspired by this idea from looking at a rasterized image on my computer screen. I just pushed and pulled cubes in space to give it life.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Raster side table interacts with people by using the concept of building solids out of individual cubes of space. In this case the 20mm blocks were the driving factor. Raster gives the illusion that this table is in the process of being made by assembling these blocks.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The Raster side table is designed to be used next to a chair or sofa.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Started November 2014 in Seattle and finished March 2015 Seattle WA
FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Furniture Design

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Raster series is made of 19mm bamboo ply sheet stock. The sheets are then cut on a cnc router and then assembled in layers to create the effect that I was after.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Width 450mm x Depth 450mm x Height 450mm

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The research portion for this product was pretty straight forward. I was already comfortable with cnc routing and the capabilities. This was an opportunity to focus on material usage and waste. There is very little in making these tables which was a secondary goal.
CHALLENGE: The assembly is the most challenging step. All of the pieces have to come together seamlessly. there is little room for error.
