| DESIGN NAME: Jig-Saw PRIMARY FUNCTION: Multifunctional Kitchen Tiles INSPIRATION: As an interior architect in our modern ad rural world, I continually play with the notion of space . I know how to feel it, to cut and structure it, but I also know its value and I learned how to save it. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: With urbanization being what it is, the ever shrinking kitchen has become a crowded place. Jig-saw allies the kitchen's complex and numerous needs with a dwindling space, without compromising, but rather enhancing aesthetics. The tiles placed on a pre-stainless-steel surface over the wall stripe, between counter-top and cabinets, are magnetised, mobile, removable, interchangeable and especially functional. Cutting board, Tray, Scale among others are morphed and custom-tiled on a wall, maximizing space, increasing practicality and adding personality to one of the main spaces in a home. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Take your tray and some serving bowls off the wall,fill them with peanuts and you're ready to serve.When finished, wash your utensils and let them regain their place on that wall. Take your cutting knife, salt and your cutting board off the wall, slice carrots sprinkle salt, and before you place them in your fridge, store them in a container you're keeping on that very same wall. when done, again, wash, rinse, wall. it's 3 o'clock on the wall, time to cook diner.Take off the food scale, the spices, some oil...well, to cut it short, you're simply going to find everything you need hugging that wall. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Wall preparation: install a thin stainless-steel sheets with a wooden panel background on the empty wall strip(old or new) or any empty surface of your kitchen you will need to use this system on. Tiles composition: the tiles themselves are various kitchen-ware moulded into resin or plastic modular tiles elements.We have 5*5 cm,5*40 cm,10*20 cm,10*10 cm,20*20 cm,20*40 cm. On each tile's back, magnet are embedded. Installation: just pose the magnetised "tiled ware" on the stainless-steel recovered wall. Variations: both background and tiling elements can be offers in various colours combination.The wall composition can be customise by alternating negative and positive tiles. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: modules of 20 cm by 20 cm and they multiples. TAGS: kitchen, multi purpose, multifunctional, magnet, colorful, modular, kitchenware RESEARCH ABSTRACT: a thorough research was conducted, traditionally, online and in the field at local manufacturing facilities, in order to bypass obstacles of design and materials, comprehending even more the concept with all its aspects by explaining it to outsiders and industrials, and noticing the spike in interest when concept facets are revealed. CHALLENGE: The main challenge was to incorporate functional kitchen ware within the tile format while keeping their full usability. being an uncharted territory, finding production facilities for one single project was an issue, but the interest in mass production if adopted was obvious, specially with the design offering a solution to a major current and upcoming urban space problem.
