| DESIGN NAME: Strabo Watch PRIMARY FUNCTION: Ladies Watch INSPIRATION: Strabo Watch was inspired by a pattern that was developed while creating a new identity for an emerging fashion brand. The main goal was to imprint brands identity in this watch, to make it recognisable, similar to how we recognise Louis Vuitton pattern or Bvlgari button for example. Recognition is essential to new brands as they compete in this already established and demanding world of fashion. Strabo watch is to be part of many brand specific accessories to help establish this new identity UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: A pattern that allowed to create a complex yet refined diamond loop which is shaped in a form of a bracelet. It is this shape that makes the watch appear authentic and somewhat different. Removing a fraction of the loop in the bracelet allowed to create a comfortably embraced watch head with a rough, rocky like pearl watch face. This natural roughness creates a soft contrast between the finishes but also successfully merges the quality and purpose of both. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The Strabo Watch has two functions - 1. To tell exact and accurate time. 2. To serve as a fashionable item that complements every dress & particular outfit. The watch should address a subtle interest and should not overpower with it's appearance. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The design project started in October 2013 and finished May 2015 |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The finishes would include - gold for the bracelet body, watch head & dials. The pearl finish would appear on the watch face only. These selected finishes would form the true exclusiveness & value of this watch. For cheaper and more accessible examples a plated gold would be considered. Manufacturing of the watch would require laser cutting - sand blasting (to remove sharp edges), heat bending (to achieve the bracelet form) and finally polishing for the final touch. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The dimensions for the Strabo Watch are approximated - Watch band width - 22,11mm, Watch loop thickness - 6mm, Watch loop overall length - 85mm Watch loop overall height - 70mm TAGS: Strabo Watch, watch, Strabo, bracelet, pattern, gold, pearl, RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The research for this particular watch project started when there was a desire to create an emerging brand identity that would come out to the world with a new and dynamic look. A look that would say - We are not afraid to dare! At the time working on many brands and their identity allowed to build knowledge and come up with something different. This different approach to design inspired to really flex and bend the possibilities of shapes to such extent that an exiting looking watch emerged from nothing but a simple glance on a section of the pattern. This is what a total freedom to design can allow. When what you enjoy doing so much, is not restricted. CHALLENGE: The most challenging part of this project and it's design was to make this form usable and functional. A large amount of time was considered to ensure that once this concept is presented it can actually be manufactured and used on regular basis. The bracelet has ball bearings that hinge at each end of the watch head and classical push clasp at the back side of the hand to close and release the bracelets grip.
