DESIGN NAME: SPHERICAL
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Armchair
INSPIRATION: The Spherical was designed to inhabit "The Habitable Sculpture" (2010), a large scale replica from a small artwork created by the architect Miguel Arruda, in 1968. This MOVECHO massive cork product represented a great challenge to the R&D team, that needed to study a sustainable producing process of the cork to ensure the viability of the Spherical. Instead of manufacturing the chair from a big block of cork, we innovated to a moulding process guaranteeing less waste and a cheaper product.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Spherical is a result of Movecho's strong investment of the R&D team on innovative production processes using cork, a natural material that identifies Portugal as its main producer. Resilience, ergonomics and the unique properties of the cork, as the warm softness, impermeability and fire resistance, are the main features that distinguish this armchair.
