DESIGN DETAILS
DESIGN NAME:
Yin Yang

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Clasp

INSPIRATION:
A friend working as stylist is creating embroidery bracelets. He asked me to create clasps for his bracelets. So I had some constraints which imposed me to create a clasp with the same logic and spatial disposition as the usual "S" clasp.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Clasp inspired from one of the most old and most simple clasp : the "S" clasp. The Yin Yang clasp offers the same functionality, the same spatial disposition but a new design, rich in meaning and esthetic.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
Using a very ancestral configuration of clasp (the "S" clasp"), the Yin Yang clasp offers however a new esthetic and a meaning. It is at the same time a clasp thanks to its functionnality and a decorative element (pendent, ...) thanks to it's look. It can also be worn as philosophical expression.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
Started in Mei 2015 in Brussels and finished (for the design part) in Brussels in Mei 2015

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
Prototype is made from a silver wire which is folded.

SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:
Can be realized in many sizes. A very important technical point : the end of the wire has to touch and cover the rest of the clasp to ensure that the necklace or the bracelet will not come undone. This clasp can be used with various necklaces or bracelets.

TAGS:
Clasp , jewelry , bracelet , pendent , necklace

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
1) Conceptual research to choice the good spatial configuration adapted with the functional need and after a conceptual research to create a new design respecting the spatial configuration , 2) Objective : create a new design for he "S clasp" configuration, 3) Methodology : mathematical and physical deductions, very difficult to explain because this part of work is very instinctive, abstract and coming partly from the subconscient 4) No special tool used

CHALLENGE:
I had no obstacles for the design, as already said it was fast and instictive. As for all my other designs, the most difficult challenge for me is the marketing.

PROFILE:
Anne Dumont is born in 1966 in Brussels/Belgium. She studied engineering and worked in IT and management during 20 years. Doing no research in her job as engineer, and having a passion for jewelry, she decide to start research in jewelry. She is auto-didacte and find that it is what help her to do innovations in jewelry. She has dreams and having no usual knowledge in jewelry to do it, she has to imagine and create her own solutions. It's why her creations are so unusual, the combination of a jewelry passion and a engineer free to create concepts and designs based only on her own logic.
