DESIGN NAME: Southern Regional College Website
PRIMARY FUNCTION: E-Learning Website
INSPIRATION: Our key tangible aim of the site was to provide information clearly to users of the College. We created a modern minimal look for the navigation and presented information in a modern contemporary style. White was used for the main menu navigation while colour was assigned to buttons and actions within the site. The main content section of the site is designed to be contained within a white content section and the navigation floats on a colour background.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The college site was outdated, complex, unresponsive to mobile devices and delivered a poor user experience. Our strategy was to create a modern responsive site which appealed to local students and grow interaction with business, industry, community associations and international students. The College provides centres of excellence for technology, business and industry providing pathways to employment. The site needed to applicable for use by all.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The primary innovation was a responsive site architecture reflowing content and navigation in order to shift content to facilitate use on mobile and tablet devices. Internal pages needed to be informative, clear and functional, meet strict requirements for accessibility and provide quick access to courses and enrolment. The homepage was created seven clear tiers of information giving users direct access to relevant sector information.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: From initial proposals drafted in June 2015 work began on the site build during November 2015 and the launch of the initial phase of the site is confirmed for April 2016. The project is ongoing with future plans to expand on the site architecture.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Consideration to the content structure within the site played an important role in the design. Best practice web usability guidelines in presenting content in a clear, easy to navigate format was the foundation of the site design. The challenges presented to the team was working within the constraints of the Joomla system to create a site that was minimalistic, informative and elegant while improving the user experience across the College services.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: We began consulting in June 2015 and reviewed data being transferred from inhouse systems to the Website. Following consultation and user testing to define the role of the website, it’s downfalls and how well competitor site preformed, we soon discovered that the site had a number of clear usability and interface design errors which delivered a poor user experience. As a result we refined the menu structure and restructured content sections within the site.
CHALLENGE: The main challenge of the site was to simplify the content in an informative and easy to understand format
