| DESIGN NAME: Tango Tote Two PRIMARY FUNCTION: Handbag INSPIRATION: Gretchen design is all about the precision of shapes. Our design is defined by a dynamic and modern, yet timeless style. Similarities with the Bauhaus school are recognisable. Details such as hand-applied profile structures, or architecturally shaped constructions indicate this influence. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: What is special about this bag is the shiny relief structure, which decorate the surface of front and back and forms the handles at the top part of the bag. These structured forms create a good stand. Profiling structures beneath the leather surface create a rich, three-dimensional texture. The shiny glazed leather deliberately plays with light and shadow effects, giving the bag an even more vivid character. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: What is special about this bag is the shiny relief structure, which decorate the surface of front and back and forms the handles at the top part of the bag. Profiling structures beneath the leather surface create a rich, three-dimensional texture. With the side parts folded in and attached to each other with a magnet, the Tango Tote has a triangle shape. The sides can also be left open, so the bag has a rectangle shape and is even roomier inside -also suitable for A4-Format. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Cut to measure profile structures are applied onto a support material. This 'base structure' is then covered with leather. With a blunt knife, the so-called 'folding leg', each profile structure is retraced by hand, one by one. finest calf leather SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Width 260 mm x Depth 45 mm x Height 16 mm TAGS: handbag, bag, accessories, leather, leathergoods, RESEARCH ABSTRACT: You'll never find anything comparable to this truly innovative design! What a modern yet wearable piece of art. Structuring elements underneath the fine leather surface add that extra-notch of style refinement. 8 pairs of hands created this pouch in 330 minutes of craftsmanship from 20 hand-cut pieces and with over 1630 stitches. NAME: Gretchen PROFILE: Berlin based accessory brand GRETCHEN was founded in 2006 by Anne-Christin and Michael Georg Schmitt with the wish to create timeless beautiful handbags made from the finest leathers. Anne-Christin, the creative mind behind Gretchen, grew up surrounded by leather goods of the family manufactory. A vita so closely interwoven with fine leather goods and her intuitive understanding of design reflect in her thoughtfully unconventional creations. Inspired by sculptural aesthetics and the architecture of nature, her handwriting is marked by feminine straightness and modern angles in distinguished shapes. |
