DESIGN NAME: Klik Brik
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Re configurable toy
INSPIRATION: The inspiration came from the desire for parents not to have to throw away their kids toys after they have outgrown the toy, the Briks mimic smaller building systems for little toys but are functionally quite different and scaled for humans (and little humans:)
Best of all the design is planned-obsolecense free due to their iconic nature, they are effectively 'future-proof039; designs.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Klik Brik is a furniture and toy product enabling kids and mom's to configure and re-configure endless furniture, storage, toy and ride-on combinations.
By approaching the design of these product categories in this way, sustainability, cost saving and a much greater involvement by the customer is achieved.
Recyclable and made from old soda pop bottles
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Klik Briks, are completely intuative drawing on the users childhood memory of small brick toys.
Assembly is via a simple smiley choke-proof 'key' that enables endless combinations without wear and tear.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: 48 months estimated due to technical challenges to yield a simple affordable solution for the customer and their child.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Although the visual and effectiveness of the design is easily grasped, the underlying technology that allows Klik Briksto be manufactured, shipped and merchandised with remarkable efficiency are not readily apparent. Klik Brik ships only 10% of its assembled volume, assembles with no tools in 10 seconds each and part costs are reduced 60% over typical construction.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 35x35x36cm each, Compresses down to 10% of its expanded volume.
Manufactured from recycled soda pop bottles with no other materials for preferred recycling.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Human factors played an enormous part in the research portion for seat and desk heights for children of varying ages and even adults to find the best compromise to fit a large ergonomic field. Additionally the team was most concerned with creating a beneficial environmental impact with the system to re use material. lastly durability, strength and safety were extensively tested in the virtual space.
CHALLENGE: Creating plastic furniture has challenges for both strength and perceived quality, additionally how would the team get the re-configurable message across instantly and without instruction?
The Eureka moment came when studying legendary childrens block toy that have endured for many generations.
Although mechanically the Klik Brik system is functionally very different both issues of percieved quality and play value were resolved with this iconic imagery.
