| DESIGN NAME: Motorola Scout 5000 PRIMARY FUNCTION: Wearable - Technology for pets INSPIRATION: The Motorola Scout 5000 is a stylish Wearable camera with tracking & activity monitoring that meets consumer demand for product design that merges functionality with style and beauty. The design was inspired by the simple form of the circle. The elegant Scout 5000 possesses an ultra-slim form factor, which means it is not just comfortable for the dog but also beautiful to look at. Boasting a rugged black finish with chromed highlights around the lens, the minimalist Scout 5000 brings simplicity in a clean and elegant form. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Unique by its shape and features, the Scout 5000 can be use either indoor & outdoor. Indoor use: Experience the world through your dog’s eyes: live video streaming in your own Wi-Fi network (Home/Garden) via Hubble app to any mobile device or PC. Bark notifications via Hubble app Two-way communication (Listen to your Pet and the environment & talk directly to your pet) Outdoor: Accurate & Reliable GPS Tracking when your dog gets lost. Product includes 1 year Free tracking without extra costs ( fair use Policy applicable) Escape notification when passing the virtual geo fence IP54 Rating to protect the device outdoors Activity monitoring : Recorded video (720p) on build in 2GB memory which can be activated remotely via Hubble app Rest / activity time per day/week/month Bark notifications: automatic pre-recorded voice messages to calm the dog or remote activated playback of the pre- recorded messages via Hubble app. Up to 2 weeks battery life (1 tracking per day) and easy recharge with build in battery OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The product consists of the device itself, mobile application software and a cloud service. The device is practically working as a connected remote controlled camera with GPS function. Via a mobile application the user can control all functions. The connectivity is done by a cloud service which communicates with the device and provides the link for mobile application. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in Hong Kong in January 2014 and finished January 2015. The early prototypes were exhibited during the 2015 consumer electronics show in Las Vegas. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The device is built on a highly integrated chipset solution for mobile, WiFi and BLE communication as well as GPS. The construction of the cabinet is extremely durable and can withstand high force dog bites. Our aim was to create an Iconic design yet compromising neither features nor the ergonomics and while maintaining a sense of utility, function, efficiency and practicality. We also aim The design language of this Scout 5000 to epitomized the notion of purposefulness. We streamlined the shape with tangent surfaces to suggest sophistication, elegance and precision. Minimal chrome highlights gives the scout 5000 a luxury and premium look and feel. Market research defined our potential customers, young to middle age pet owners, living in a stylish way, loving technology and enjoying the quality of life. CHALLENGE: -Combining ergonomic and aesthetic was a real challenge. We achieved this by creating and refining multiple amounts of prototypes to select the most comfortable shape, in an elegant yet functional and ergonomic form factor. Giving the product its iconic and distinctive appeal. - Tooling complexity with minimizing part lines and screws was achieved by highlighting connection with chrome plated finish.
