| DESIGN NAME: Motorola Focus 1000 Camera PRIMARY FUNCTION: Portable Wi-Fi IP camera INSPIRATION: The Motorola Focus 1000 is a stylish lifestyle camera that meets consumer demand for product design that merges functionality with style and beauty. The design was inspired by the simple form of the circle. The elegant Focus 1000 possesses an ultra-slim form factor, which means it is not just comfortable to use, but also beautiful to look at. Boasting a glossy black finish with chromed highlights, an ergonomic design and matte accents, the minimalist Focus 1000 brings simplicity in a clean and elegant form. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: At only 23mm thin x 48mm diameter, Motorola Focus 1000 is a powerful weatherproof camera that packs 2.5K video features, putting you a step ahead in capturing your life through photography and video with simple one touch. It is, by far, the smallest connected 2.5K social lifestyle camera in the world. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Motorola focus 1000 works with your smartphone through built-in Bluetooth and Wi-Fi so that you can effortlessly share your day with family or friends. It’s not just about capturing the perfect picture; it’s about sharing moments in real time, all with the ease of a single click. At only 23mm thin x 48mm diameter, Moto Life is a powerful weatherproof lifestyle camera that packs 2.5K QHD video features with wide 138 degree field of view (FOV), putting you a step ahead in capturing your family life through photography and video with simple one touch. Moto Life is designed for live streaming over Wi-Fi. The camera can connect directly to the cloud via the smartphone, streaming video using RTSP technology. The customized app makes Moto Life experience even fun and social. The Moto Life App lets you enhance every image with a collection of amazing filters. With just one tap create beautiful images/videos and be inspired to share your photos/videos like a true professional. Make capturing and sharing everyday life even more visual. The Moto Life App also lets you create group events where tagged friends can snap pictures and stream video into a private space or share with others on other social networks. Browse the feed to see the world through the eyes of others. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in Hong Kong in January 2014 and finished January 2015 . PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Motorola Focus 1000 works with your smartphone through built-in Bluetooth and Wi-Fi so that you can effortlessly share your day with family or friends. The main housing is designed and manufactured using ABS plastic which gives the Focus 1000 the strength and durability needed for a long lasting life as well as a superior surface quality and High gloss finishing. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 23mm thin x 48mm diameter Package contains the main core unit with built in Battery, charger and accessories such as Clip, wall mount, docking stand and waterproof case. TAGS: lifestyle camera, IP camera, weatherproof, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth RESEARCH ABSTRACT: We designed our Focus 1000 with simplicity in mind and made disciplined choices. Our aim was to create an Iconic design yet compromising neither features nor the ergonomics. We streamlined the shape with fast and smooth surfaces to suggest sophistication, elegance, fluidity, grace, refinement and precision. The intentional absence of visible screws and obstructing part lines gives our design a luxury and premium look and feel. Inspired by the idea of less is more, the surface treatment was inspired from the glossy finish of a high end sport car. Market research defined our potential customers, young to middle age, living in a stylish way, loving artistic display and enjoying the quality of life. Based on these researches, our designer developed a wide range of form factor inspired by the purity and metaphoric shape of a circle: unbiased, solid and unwavering in its geometric simplicity, denoting unity and eternity, totality and infinity. We achieved this by creating and refining multiple amount of prototypes to select the most comfortable shape, in an elegant yet functional and ergonomic form factor. Giving the product its iconic and distinctive appeal. - Tooling complexity with invisible part lines and screws was achieved by highlighting connection with chrome plated finish. - Our aim to create an iconic product and differentiate ourselves from an Aesthetic point of view was very critical and was achieve by intense research.
