DESIGN NAME: Titobowl
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Snack bowl
INSPIRATION: The form and function of Titobowl found his inspiration in the anatomy of an olive, the most logical and simple form of all we were looking for.
The packaging design is inspired by the image of a can of olives.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Titobowl is a ceramic vessel in a shape of olive, specially designed for tasting different varieties and seasonings of olives, provided with a olive wood container to get rid the pits. Also it has been adapted for tasting pitted olives and other snacks. Turning the top cap of the container, it becomes a toothpick holder.
Titobowl is the second project for a line of functional eco-design called "NATURA IMITATIS" (from Latin, "imitating nature").
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The use of Titobowl is easy, logical and fun. With one hand you take an olive from the bowl, and with the other hand you open the top cover to get rid the olive pit and hide it from view.
Opening gift packaging is performed by pulling the ring of cardboard, in the same way in which you would open a can of olives, so this design also becomes a singular gift.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in January 2014 in Madrid (Spain). In December 2014 the prototypes of the piece and its packaging are completed.
In January 2015 began the production of the ceramic bowl in Talavera de la Reina (Toledo / Spain), the piece of wood in Valladolid (Spain) and production of packaging in Madrid (Spain)
In December 2014, this design was first presented to the public at the Central Market Design. Disseny HUB. (Barcelona) Spain.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: This design is integrated into a research on the properties, shapes and textures of simple and universal vegetable forms and their application to design a line of functional products for the kitchen, very simple and with great aesthetic and emotional strength.
In parallel with design work, we have investigated which varieties of olive wood are more appropriate for this piece. We studied the forms of drying and the kind of wood that offer us the greater aesthetic force.
CHALLENGE: The olives are a very interesting appetizer because of its taste and they are very healthy. The best varieties and seasoning of olives normally are not pitted. This is well known in Mediterranean countries, but usually in other countries, people consume the olives pitted.
The main challenge of this project was to create a piece of design so simple, evocative and elegant enough to be able to awaken an interest in this appetizer so singular, outside the olives producers countries.
