| DESIGN NAME: Milkyway PRIMARY FUNCTION: Outdoor Lighting INSPIRATION: We inspired by the sky and the stars. We wanted to represent the real light source of sky at night. Every star that can be seen with naked eye is belongs to Milky Way Galaxy. All the young and old stars revolve around the galactic center and form the spiral arms. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Milkyway is top-mounted LED luminaire for outdoor usage in areas like parks, gardens and etc. The design of the product is based on the functionality and aesthetics together to build a practical and faschinating structure which also reflects our brand identity. Milkyway provide customers an aesthetic product and also gives them wide variety of technical solutions for their lighting problem. Additionally to the main LED light source, there is an RGB LED line around the luminaire top that gives an adjustabe ambient light with different color choices. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Milkyway is simple but yet very modern. It is completely made of aluminium alloy and mechanically designed to consist the least amount of parts to build the main body. This parts connect each other with smart and simple details. It has got also very simple mounting details which allow users to change the top of the luminaire easily with the minimum effort and time usage. This thoroughness in mechanical and optical details makes it a very high standart product with IP66 rating and consolidate its simple and modern design. And the production details together with the material selection makes it sustainable and ecofriendly product. Also wider light angle provide a better diffusion and illumination. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The product consists of two main materials; aluminium alloy main body and PMMA optical cover. Under the optical cover there are LED modules (PCB/Printed Circuit Board) for illumination and also there is a constant current LED driver inside of the luminaire as a power supply. The LED PCB’s are mounted on a metal sheet to reduce the heat as a way of providing LED chips a longer lifetime. In the production of the product, we used aluminium injection die casting for the main body and applied powder coating for the different surface finishes, available in a broad range of colours.. The PMMA cover produced by plastic injection molding method. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 650 mm x 580 mm x 460 mm The LED modules life is 50,000 hours and the colour is consistent over lifetime. Orion provide customers an aesthetic product and also gives them wide variety of technical solutions for their lighting problem. The LED modules has got a CRI values greater than 80. It has got various luminosity values such as 1750lm, 2600lm, 4100lm and power values such as 20W, 30W, 44W. It provides different color temperature values such as 3000K, 4000K and 6500K. A research about our galaxy and space is conducted conceptually during the structural and emotional design process of the project. Also mechanical team focused on the outdoor usage and sustainable production while optical team worked on the luminous solutions. CHALLENGE: The hardest part of the design process is the development phase. After the creation of concept, we had difficulties in process of transforming the concept into a real and manufactured product. We tried not to limit our creativity but also tried to think about production factors and the technology we had. It was very challenging to decide when we will stop and the eventual design. We worked with the optical and mechanical team as the lighting design team and tried to solve problems with a multidisciplinary study.
