DESIGN NAME: Eden
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Ring
INSPIRATION: The inspiration to create Eden derived from the desire to create a ring which is uniquely alluring, feminine and statement making, and at the same time with a touch of the beauty of Mother Nature. The overall curvy silhouette of Eden was inspired by the shapes of trees and plants; while the choice of gems was inspired by vibrant colour tones of water and flowers. The name Eden in Hebrew means delight or luxury. This ring seeks to capture the beauty of the Garden of Eden, which is recorded in the Bible as a beautiful paradise created by God.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Eden is made from unique elements of cushion cut blue topaz, calibrated round diamonds, and fancy sapphires of pink, orange and yellow ;each element is delicately chosen and put together to create the perfect harmony. The double layer of diamonds and gems combination showcases a dazzling and dramatic play of light from all angles that adds colours and character to Eden’s wearer.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: To be worn on a index, middle, or ring finger, light shines in and through the beautiful and colorful gem combination on the ring creating drama and sparkle.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project was developed in October 2014 in Kuala Lumpur , Malaysia, and it took around three months to complete.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Eden is a labour of both handmade and modern technology. The basic architecture of Eden was developed using 3D CAD and birthed through 3D printing, followed by lost wax casting and laser welding of the overlaying structures to form the ring’s unique double layer design. Eden was then modified by hand for design enhancement. Micro pave setting technology was also used to bring the beautiful diamonds and gems together.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Research was done on the different forms and colours which nature has to offer. I first focused on the colour combination to reach a vibrant yet nature like vibe. The next step was choosing a shape to complement the square shaped blue topaz. I wanted a structure which balances the blue topaz with the sapphires of pink, orange and yellow, hence the double layer design of Eden. Various gemstones mounting method was also considered before deciding on the avant garde pave setting.
CHALLENGE: The main challenge in designing Eden was refining the shape, especially the lines and curves. It was not easy realizing the design in its actual form. I wanted a design that is one of a kind while providing comfort to its wearer. Various experiments and modifications on the shape, flow and details were necessary to realize the design. Another challenge was arranging the different coloured and sized gemstones for pave setting to create the perfect harmony and sparkle for Eden.
