| DESIGN NAME: FTA Towers PRIMARY FUNCTION: Hotel & Residence INSPIRATION: Since the plot of the customer is located on seaside, the form of the towers has been designed by following the figure of the fish. To create the integration of sea with the buildings, the form of fish has been chosen. The perception has been created as if the buildings are a part of sea. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: FTA Towers consists of three towers. The towers are 190 meter tall project with a luxury hotel and residential apartments. Two towers on seaside are residential apartments, the other tower on the road is a luxury hotel. The podium includes lobbies, multiple restaurants, cafes, shops and a conference center. Each tower has 42 floors. Also each of the towers has a an observation deck at the top formed as a fish eye through which the people can enjoy the sea view of Abu Dhabi. At the observation deck, restaurants, cafes and bars are considered to provide hotel guests a view-enjoying place. The observation decks of residential towers offer their residents a social area such as fitness, cafes with a perfect view. The uniqueness of this observation deck is the fact that it has been designed as a glass hemi sphere, which symbolizes the eye of the fish. For each tower, a secret terrace has been designed which can be utilized with different functions such as luxury restaurants, cafes and bars. When they are utilized for such commercial purposes, these secret terraces provide intimacy and calmness to the customers. They help people to close themselves completely from the surroundings. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: For the seperation of two functions, i.e residential apartment and hotel; two residential apartment blocks have been located on the seaside together with their special pool in their secret terrace away from hotel block. On the other hand, the hotel has been located on the road for easy access of the hotel guests from city to the hotel and vice versa. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: FTA Towers is one of the two concept projects designed for a client who desired two different concept projects for his seaside plot in Corniche, Abu Dhabi. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: In the middle section there is the transparent lift and the atrium which receive the natural day light during the day through space ranging from top to bottom. The observation decks have been designed as a glass hemisphere. The carriers of the observations decks have been provided with steel beams in the form of fish bone. A special reflection glass and alucobond has been prefered on the facade of the towers. The spider glass facade has been utilized for the facade of atrium. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The project has been designed on a plot of 48000sqm. The towers are 190 meter tall. TAGS: Hotel, Residence, tower, FTA Towers, fish, fish eye, observation deck, secret terrace, Abu Dhabi RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Considering the wishes of plot owner, the plot has been studied carefully. Since the plot is located on seaside, the towers are considered as fishes coming from the sea. The towers are considered like a monument, like a symbol for the newly built city with their extraordinary design. CHALLENGE: The building has been planned in an ellipse form and each floor has different dimensions. It has taken a little bit time to shape each floor plans differently. NAME: MURAT GEDIK PROFILE: Born in 1972 in Istanbul, Turkey, Murat Gedik studied Construction Painting. Since graduation, he has worked for several reputable architecture firms. He designs architectural futuristic concepts, high-rise buildings, future warships and automobiles as a freelance designer. One of his automobile designs was awarded 2nd place in category 'Ergonomy' in last year's car design contest held by Automotive Exporters Association, in Turkey. His concept project 'Field of Flowers' was awarded by A Design Award in Architecture, Building and Structure Category in 2014. His architectural concept design project named ‘Xcept’ was published in a notable Turkish architecture magazine called ‘Tasarım’ in May 2008, 181th edition. He continues his designs in different fields both domestic and international. |
