DESIGN NAME: Ripple
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Wall Lamp
INSPIRATION: The design was inspired by the ripple which is a wave traveling along the phase boundary of a fluid, whose dynamics are dominated by the effects of surface tension.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Ripple is a unique wall and ceiling light inspired from the ripples which are common in nature. The wavelength of capillary waves in water is typically less than a few centimeters which was abstracted on this project with the same scales. when the light is turn off you can have the same impression with the form of the design that represents the ripples. But the purpose is to reduce this effect by illuminating the lamp and giving the ripples shadows on to the wall.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: For placing the bulb at the very front centre of the ripple glass layers, is to reduce the best realistic shadow effect on the wall. The different sizes of ripple lamps have different bulb body sizes which one of the is smaller than the other or bigger. These intersections have the natural shadow effect on wall.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in February 2015 and finished in February 2015.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Wall Lamp Material: Molded Glass. Casting is the method of creating ripples by placing glass into a mold and letting it take the shape inside.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 3 different sizes

Designing 3 different sizes helps to abstract the best possible realistic shadow effect, combining each others' shadows on the wall as ripples.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Research started with what material could give the ripple affect naturally on shadows. So after several choices and try glass as a natural material itself gives the perfect impression. So a natural event abstracted by a natural material which is what my search based on.
CHALLENGE: Trying to abstract the behaviour and and the shape of the ripples on glass was the most challenging thing. As a result; glass gives the perfect shadow effect above all other materials.
