| DESIGN NAME: Moonlight bracelet PRIMARY FUNCTION: Bracelet INSPIRATION: Watch movements. Many kinds of geometrical figures. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The main goal of this project was to create a perfect harmony with two different materials(Metal and Glass) for jewelry. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This bracelet is designed to be worn simply on either wrist with the original clasp. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started and finished in November 2014 in Philadelphia. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Brass plated in 18k gold, Mineral glass, Stainless steel. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: mm: 30.0 x 210.0 x 2.0 TAGS: Bracelet, Gold, Glass, Watch, Moonlight RESEARCH ABSTRACT: - CHALLENGE: Through 3D printing technology, I felt that I finally transcended limitation in being able to materialize all the shapes I want, but then I realized there was another challenge: making a mechanism for bracelets. I assumed that just making a simple mechanism for bracelets would be the easiest task. I was totally wrong. It turned out that it was the most complicated part. Before making it, all the errors needed to be calculated. Just 0.3mm error was enough to ruin the whole thing. It was hard to anticipate without experience. NAME: J.M.J PROFILE: Jimin Jung was born in 1990 in the Republic of Korea. He has studied crafts and industrial design in Philadelphia. He began his exploration of jewelry at university. His design practice is informed by modernism and minimalism and driven by material exploration. He utilizes a traditional and contemporary designing and making skill to bring form to his artistic vision. All his jewelry is comprised of multiple geometric elements, married into abstract modules which repeat in order to create an elaborate form. The design process pushes the limitations and error range of the technology to achieve a dynamic form composed of simple elements |
