| DESIGN NAME: gosh! CordBox PRIMARY FUNCTION: Cable Management INSPIRATION: All cable management boxes in the market are constructed as a full box container with minimalistic design element. And they are likely to end up underneath your table and tucked away at some corners. All too ‘plasticky’ and rigid. Though it performs the basic function of hiding messy cables and sockets, it didn't address the problems from the consumers, retailers and distributors and supply chain perspective. We want to address all these short comings and re-design a product that fully takes care of these issues. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The CordBox took into consideration 3 major perspectives coming from consumers, retailers and distributors. From consumers’ perspective, cable box need not be sitting underneath the desk nor tucked at one corner. It should be a piece of accessory that could be proudly displayed on their desk and easily accessed. We chose a metallic finish ABS plastic to give it an expensive aluminium crafted feel. This is wrapped with soft touch faux leather to give the design some soft and luxurious element but retaining the sturdiness of a box. For Retailers, the biggest problem is always with merchandising space. By designing a box that is collapsable and easily installed, more than half the retail merchandise space can be saved. For Distributors, shipping cost constitutes a major cost to the landed product. Instead of shipping the same 1 box size, they can ship 3 boxes given the amount of space saved with our collapsable design. In short, the unique features of the CordBox is 1. Collapsable design 2. Easily 3 step installation 3. Flat Packed. Benefiting Retailers in merchandising space management and distributor shipping cost. 4. Premium and luxurious finishing 5. Easy accessed and dismantable OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The CordBox is assembled in 3 simple steps. Fold the 4 joint panels, snap each end of the box with the side covers. Extension plugs is easily accessible from the top flip lit magnetic cover. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in January 2014 in Singapore and finished in August 2014. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The Cordbox is made up of 3 different mold for it's component. It consist of the 3 different types of panels that is used and adjoint with leather for connecting the panels. The choice of material used for the 3 parts were made out of fireproof grade ABS for its temperature resistance in order to house power plug adapters . They are injection through a 4 sided mold and finished with metallic spray and brush aluminium lines to give it a premium look with the contrast to the leather.
