INSPIRATION: Inspired by the sculpture of Sophia Vari-Botero.
I wanted to create a storage system which could be easily customized to suit the personality of the individual and also change its look every day.

This allows you to totally change the look of Totem every day. Totem is sculpture. Totem can be made from precious materials, or moulded from plastic. TOTEM is high-tech. Totem is modular. You can start with 2-3 levels and add, subtract or re-arrange compartments as your storage needs change.
TOTEM is modular. It can be added to, changed, updated.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Simple drawer and slide arrangement allows you to change the look and function of your cabinet for formal, office or bedroom private areas.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The drawers/swivels can use woods, plastics or metals. The rear axis supports all drawers/swivels. It uses self-lubricating plastic sleeves in aluminium bushes so that it remains dry and clean, dust-free.
It can be as tall as is needed and can be re-structured.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Closed: 500mm wide X 500mm deep X 1 metre high, but can be scaled to suit.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Type of Research: Universal storage solution. Taking a new look at how we store objects.
Research Objectives: Storage system which can be object-specific - can store clothes and personal effects as easily as electronic watch-winders, foam-lined cameras and lenses, etc
Methodology: Looked at professional storage of recording/filming equipment and how that could translate to domestic or office environment.
Results, Insights and Impacts: The modern concept of storage hasn't changed to reflect how we transport AND store things today.
CHALLENGE: The simple realization that we only use drawers or swinging doors to secure objects. Also, why can't a cabinet transform into a 3D sculpture?
The hardest part of the design was coming up with a simple, yet clean way to allow the lateral movements without taking up too much space or having stability issues with weights placed in each drawer/swivels.
