| DESIGN NAME: Aero PRIMARY FUNCTION: Dining Table INSPIRATION: This piece models a sleek, lightweight style. The mixture of colors and the unique and pure style lines project an air of liberation, rebellion and classic entertainment from the 20s. The designer has always had a great interest in organic forms, and a passion for aviation and aircraft designs from the 20s. These interests merge to create the Aero collection: furniture thoughtfully designed to evoke feelings of a successful design era, the 20s, and the harmony and beauty provided by organic forms. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The pure organic shapes, the retro feel and the intense personality are combined with solid Tzalam and Beech wood. Each piece is processed with state of the art machinery, but the final forms are hand carved, and the multilayer lacquer paint is applied by hand. The curved lines on the top, thick glass at the center, full organic legs and the combination of Woods combine each other into a pleasant feeling to the diner, subtly bringing him to the luxury and ambience of a golden age. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This is a piece designed to be placed on a Dining Room, it can sit up to 12 persons. it can be combined with different styles of chairs in order to create a unique environment. As a piece of art also, the designer invites the user to use this furniture in other environments, for example in an office (such as conference table). There are no limits. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Started in November 2013 in Merida, Mexico and finished in March 2014 in Merida, Mexico. FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Furniture Design |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: High End Italian Machinery combined with artisanal hand shaping. Materials: Tzalam and German Beech wood, Red Oak Multiplywood, Colored Glass and High Solids Poluyrethane Paint applied by hand. Mortise and Tenon assembly. The most important step of the manufacturing process is the hand carving of the organic elements: the legs. These elements give a warm and elegant character to the table, and could not have been achieved without the meticulous and skilled craftsmanship of both the designer and the artisan. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 2450mm W x 1550mm D x 740mm H TAGS: Dining Table, Organic Furniture, Stylish Furniture, Modern Furniture, Vintage RESEARCH ABSTRACT: To develop the "Aero" line, especially the dining table, the designer studied in detail the aircraft designs of the 20s, and their relation to furniture design trends of the time. With this information, the designer mixed aerodynamic details with organic elements in order to give life to the "Aero" line. CHALLENGE: In order to reach the final design, both the designer and a team of artisans developed 5 full escale models, which were shaped all by hand. Rios PROFILE: Born in México, Gerardo Ríos has the training of an industrial designer and the calling of an artist: Curious and inquisitive by nature, in his furniture he mixes a seemingly boundless array of stimuli that only truly materialize after an intense process of studies and refinement. As a multifaceted artist, he has a highly sophisticated vision in regards to what makes a piece of furniture special. His designs are made with pure, organic shapes, sometimes elemental but always evoking lavish experiences and associations. |
