| DESIGN NAME: Eros PRIMARY FUNCTION: Console INSPIRATION: This piece was inspired by sensual emotion, warmth and elegance. It comes from a line of furniture with organic and dynamic details, that creates a unique sensuality. The designer has always had a great interest in organic forms, and a passion for the human body. These interests merge to create the Eros collection, which combines these two elements of inspiration, which are transformed into a collection of furniture thoughtfully designed to evoke erotic feelings and the harmony and beauty provided by organic forms. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Inspired on the sensual forms of the human body, the organic and curved lines of this piece emulate a warm and daring sensation that balances half way between the futurist and the wilderness. Hand shaped on Tzalam Wood, and combined with colored laminated glass, each piece is unique and is signed both by the artisan and the designer. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The piece was originally designed to be used in a residence, but as a piece of art also, the designer invites the user to use this furniture in other environments, for example in an luxury office or a high end store, there are no limits. It has a very different perspective in each angle of view. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Started on September 2013 in Merida Mexico and finished on April 2014 in Merida Mexico. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The wood used is Tzalam, a very hard tropical wood from sustainable forests in Central America. The top is made with laminated/translucen SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 1870mm W x 430mm D x 845mm TAGS: Organic, Console, Design Furniture, Erotic Furniture, hand carved, luxury, glass, carved wood RESEARCH ABSTRACT: To develop this design, the designer studied the human anatomy, especially the female body; in order to trace organic lines that emulate the human body. Dozens of hand drawings were developed, until the lines that would make each piece of furniture were selected. Each of the wooden parts of the furniture are directly inspired in the human body, in order to provide the user / spectator a sense of eroticism and beauty. The design resulted from several female nude drawings made by the designer prior to the first sketches of the furniture, then the formal process of drafting with materials, shades and views, to be guidelines to make the CAD drawings. After that, the designer sculpt the all pieces in real size but in a rough manner, seeking for the final sensual shape of each part, then this pieces are taken by the artisan to reproduce them with perfection of shape and alignment and assembly them. CHALLENGE: The challenge was to obtain the exact design and forms that were in the designer's mind. In order to achieve this, both the designer and the artisan worked together with 7 full scale prototypes before producing the final piece, all pieces were detailed and shaped by hand first by the designer itself, and then mastered the final pieces by the artisan carpenter. It was needed to solve several structural challenges to make this piece resist weight and normal use. As a multifaceted artist, he has a highly sophisticated vision in regards to what makes a piece of furniture special. His designs are made with pure, organic shapes, sometimes elemental but always evoking lavish experiences and associations. |
