DESIGN NAME: Drop
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Recessed Lighting
INSPIRATION: Natural light, skylights, serenity, coolness and composure are the values of this light fitting and its design. A seamless junction between ceiling and light, a perfect harmony between functionality and beauty. A gradient rather than a disruption, in order to promote an interior design that flows naturally, minimalist and cozy.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: DROP is a new Arkoslight recessed light with a new and different design. With the light on, the lighting of DROP produces an effect erasing with its clarity the limits of the light source, thus avoiding them to be distinct. The lighting effect of this new recessed light resembles that of a natural skylight.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The ideal setting for this product is white roofs highlighting the effect of continuity between the ceiling and the luminaire. Interior designs seeking a minimalist aesthetic and a serene atmosphere.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Project started in 2012 in Valencia and was exhibited in Light and Building 2014 (Frankfurt).

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: We research the aesthetic trends in interior design main stakeholders, such as decorating magazines, journals in design, etc. Our goal was to get the aesthetic trends and transform them into design values to apply to our new luminaire. Our methodology was to observing market and competitors, systematization of findings, and interpretation of the results to synthesize the design guidelines. Also, we sought the integration of design and electronics for a perfect combination of functionality, aesthetics and performance.
CHALLENGE: Aesthetically, the design of the luminaire has pursued better integration and continuity with the roof. The main obstacle has been getting a thin edge for ceiling integration, combined with a gradient shape to accentuate the skylight effect. The design was developed simultaneously with the selection of technical components for an optimum lighting, considered from the technical approach).
