| DESIGN NAME: Contibox PRIMARY FUNCTION: Workstation INSPIRATION: A stand alone good looking all-in-one modular workstation for all intents and purposes providing more than what you need for a built-in basic yet contented workstation. Contibox can be placed anywhere as a focal piece. It need not stick against the wall unlike other workstation models which are heavy on weight. This furniture product can be placed in spaces like your bedroom, study, home office and office, etc. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Contibox, a modern, industrially sleek workstation has all the functions required in one. The uniqueness of this workstation provides features for all the basic necessities convenient and easy access. You don't need a separate seat, lamp, accessory holder, wire manager, etc. It's all built in one. When not assembled to use, it looks like a box with chamfered edges on opposite ends making it look like a focal piece and not really a workstation. Finish-wise, this product can be customized making it suitable for any kind of space. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: It doesn't require a wall for support. The caged-box design makes the overall product look light. Features like the accessory tray is designed to place additional items, the LED aluminium built-in lamp with a switch when not in use is placed on the L bracket which is attached to the table top. To emit light, you can simply pick it up from the bracket and place it vertically inside the aluminium section built-in pocket connecting the male to the female lamp connector. Also provided a seat within the product with an optional backrest. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Contibox was digitally developed in April 2014 in Mumbai, India, simply for personal use. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Contibox primary material is the 18mm x 18mm thick gauged pre-casted aluminium box section finished in matt anodised black for the structure and secondary material is a 10mm thick transparent coloured acrylic sheet for the top, backrest and drawers. Exposed lockable metal hinges are used to fold and unfold fittings like the backrest and accessories tray. The seat for Contibox has a foam padding, finished with fabric. At the rear of the workstation, a metal section member is provided with an attached power plug (Multi socket plug) facility. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Overall Dimensions - 1220mm x 500mm x 820mm. Overall Seat Dimensions - 820mm x 462mm x 480mm. Seat Dimensions - 495mm x 462mm x 480mm. Accessory Tray Dimensions - 130mm x 464mm x 18mm. Lamp Dimensions - 18mm x 300mm x 400mm. Back-rest Dimensions - 495mm x 18mm x 230mm. My current workstation over all is basic and cluttered with all the necessary items which made me develop a workstation that is simple but has all the works required in one. Most of the basic ones look like a box, so the evolution of this model was inspired through a box which created Contibox. The overall weight and balance required research as the idea was not to limit the placement of this workstation against a wall. CHALLENGE: The idea was to develop a workstation unique from typical workstations with all the functions built-in-one. Development of the built-in lamp and balancing the overall frame on just two perpendicular ends was the most challenging during the process.
